This is an older mined piece of extremely fine Aiiwatani Tomae. This stone isn't super hard but has a wonderful, high class, gentle feel similar to older Nakayama stones. This stone was likely mined and processed by the current stamp holder for Aiiwatani's father as it's stamped only Sho Honyama. Currently, all Aiiwatani stones from the same wholesaler are stamped with the current version of the Kanji for Aiiwatani. Water only honing feels silky and elastic with extremely high quality feel. Diamond plate slurry Yields a very grit rich slurry with fast cutting properties. The stone erases medium grit scratches and leaves a beautiful hazy finish. Using a Tomo Nagura after diamond plate slurry refines the edge and increases comfortability. This stone is hard enough for Mikawa Nagura progression and excells in that area as well. The slurry from Mikawa Nagura can be read and the granularity is clear. This stone is also very good for knife polishing. It has great cutting ability and leaves a shiny, near mirror polish. The feedback is very similar to a high quality Nakayama. Overall, a great stone that is super versatile in that it's great for knives, razors and tools.

A photo of the stone's polishing ability on a high quality Japanese kitchen knife is shown.
