Atoma 600 Grit Japanese Diamond Sharpening Stone / Lapping Plate
Atoma diamond sharpening plates, made by Tsuboman of Japan, have earned a well deserved reputation for durability, the highest quality and excellent results among the straight razor and knife sharpening crowd. They are equally as adept at sharpening steel as they are at lapping and finishing natural and synthetic sharpening stones.
The 210mm x 75mm (8.25" x 3") diamond plate shown here consists of 600 grit diamond abrasive in a dot pattern bonded to a metal sheet which is then adhered to a milled flat aluminum base plate. The result is a remarkably even abrasive on a lightweight, easy to handle plate which has the added advantage of not suctioning to stones being lapped due to their spaced abrasive pattern.
The 600 grit is excellent for heavy repair work on damaged straight razors, knife repair work / sharpening and natural and synthetic stone flattening. It is also great at creating a slurry on coarse sharpening stones (we heartily recommend the Atoma 1200 for finer hones).
While extremely durable, when eventually worn the abrasive diamond sheet can be removed and replaced. Replacement 600 grit sheets can be ordered here.
