Belgian La Lorraine - 6.8" x 1.6" (170 x 40mm) Vintage Natural Straight Razor Sharpening Hone Stone
The La Lorraine whetstone is a natural sharpening stone that is a separate vein of stone which was historically mined in Salmchateau/Vielsalm in Belgium alongside yellow Coticule and Belgian Blue stone. No longer mined commercially, these stones all come from an old tool shop in Belgium that closed somewhere in the 1950’s.
La Lorraine whetstones are well suited for honing fine knives and straight razor honing. They are fast and generate a sharp but smooth edge which is capable for a shave without further finishing. In honing speed and fineness they are somewhere in between between the Belgian Blue Whetstone and the average Coticule.
This stone measures 170mm long x 40mm wide and approximately 16mm thick and has been lapped flat by us on one side. It is ready to use for razor honing and a variety of other sharpening purposes.
These are natural stones, so their appearance may vary from the photos shown.
