Iwasaki Tamahagane Rare Fully Restored - 6/8 Full Hollow Western Vintage Japanese Straight Razor - Shave Ready

Razor Specifics:
Age Range: Circa 1950s-1960s
Manufacturer: Made in Japan in the post-war period likely from 1950s-1970 by Iwasaki

Restoration: some abrasive cleaning and polishing, but the razor was in very good condition already, it has been also freshly honed and stropped and is ready to shave immediately 

Blade
Material: Tamahagane
Width: 3/4" wide from edge to top of the spine
Grind: Western style full hollow grind
Hone Wear: very light
Tip: Square
Finishes: slightly glazed mirror finish on blade faces, crocus (mirror) finish on tang
Condition: Excellent, some scattered marks and light pitting to the steel present but very little considering the razor's age

Material: Original celluloid
Pinning: Nickel silver pins and washers, original, the razor has never been unpinned
Condition: Near mint, the blade is held tightly and centers well between them

Each one of our restored razors is brought back to life with a passion and attention to detail like it would be an addition to our own collection or user rotation. Many years of restoration experience and hundreds of restored razors sold around the world have refined our processes, but each razor is still given the time and individual attention it needs. Our vintage razors undergo dozens of steps involving blade unpinning (where necessarily) metal grinding/sanding with a range of different diameter and hardness wheels with various grits of abrasive and polishes. Scales are straightened and repaired when necessary, wet sanded and polishing. After the razor’s cosmetic and functional repairs are completed, a multistep honing process using a range of synthetic and natural sharpening stones is used to bring each razor back to keen and comfortable shaving sharpness. Finally stropping is performed on one of our cordovan leather strops and the blade is sanitized in Barbicide hospital-grade disinfectant.
