This exceptional Japanese Whetstone comes from Matt's personal collection. In fact, it honed many dozen, probably hundreds of razors sold by use here at GSG and received many compliments on the resulting edges. While it is a Maruka stamped hone, we cannot be certain of the stamps authenticity. That being said, the stone's performance is what matters and this one certainly performs like a Maruka-level hone.  It measures 197 mm long × 73 mm wide × 25 mm tall with a weight of 823 grams.

Stone Details:

Hardness: LV 5 Super Hard
This is an absolutely stunning stone in all aspects! visually, it's got a mix of Kan stripes and Karasu/Suminagashi swirling around the top. A very hard stone that still remains the gentle feel that super high quality Nakayama often possess. this makes the stone very versatile in regard to knives, razors and tools. for razors, it's a dream to hone on. it has a very hard and dense feel but there's a level of ever so slight elasticity that welcomes the blade and keeps things engaging. Mikawa Nagura progressions are an absolute pleasure as the Nagura slurry was clear and concise in its feedback. for knives, amazingly it works very well. it's very very dense and hard but still welcomes the blade in with the elastic give that prevents scratching. The stone is a fast cutter as well and immediately released black ink onto the stone. The polishing capabilities of the stone were amazing as well. It left a bright, mirror-like finish with contrast between the Hagane and Jigane. Not much else to say but a true Dream Stone!
