Kouzaki Aoto Pre-WW2 Japanese Natural Toishi Whetstone for Knives and Razors

This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected and purchased by us directly from Japan, then thoroughly tested and coated with cashew lacquer on sides and back to protect the stone for long term use.

225mm (8.86 inches) long × 65mm (2.56 inches) wide × 70mm (2.76 inches) tall, and weighs 2590g (5.72 pounds).
Pre WW2 Aoto from Kouzaki. This stone was certified as authentic by the Natural Whetstone Museum. This is a perfect example of a museum quality piece with exceptional particle uniformity lending it to use for straight razors and cutlery. It's a mildly self slurrying stone with great abrasive power. the stone will release a thin mud when honing on water only. If some slurry is forced, the cutting action increases. The subsequent mud can be easily worked with no new abrasive added to the mix ensuring a fine finish. Great stone to use for bevel setting or to remove the scratches from Medium Grit stones. This stone leaves a beautiful hazy but semi bright finish with barely any remaining scratches. Almost fine enough to finish a razor and perfect for kitchen knife finishing. Museum grade Stone.
