Mizukihara Uchigumori Jito Renge Japanese Natural Toishi Whetstone
This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected and purchased by us directly from Japan, then thoroughly tested and coated with cashew lacquer on sides and back to protect the stone for long term use. It measures 195mm (7.68 inches) long × 70mm (2.76 inches) wide × 30mm (1.18 inches) tall, and weighs 1100g (2.43 pounds).
Medium hard and fine Uchigumori with dense Renge. The stone has a darker blue coloration which is usually an indication of a harder Uchigumori. This stone is on the fine side for Uchigumori and harder than most as well. Most Uchigumori fall into the range of medium fine and into finishing depending on the stone. This one is past midway by a good amount. The sensation when honing on water only is sublime with super fine feeling granular feedback with a silky smooth touch. The cutting strength is medium and the polish is very reflective yet a beautiful dark haze. A finished edge for a razor is possible on this stone.
Creating light diamond plate slurry dramatically increases the cutting speed of the stone and removes medium grit scratches effectively. For knife polishing, the stone is a wonderful addition to any polishing progression. The finish is a bit different from softer Uchigumori in that it leaves a more deep haze on the cladding/soft iron yet it's much more reflective than most softer pieces. This stone also excels at edge sharpening which is an often overlooked quality in Uchigumori. Overall, a harder and more fine Uchigumori which is very clean with no lines or inclusion.
