Very hard and fine Nakayama Mizu Asagi with beautiful color and extremely dense. This stone originates from the famous Maruichi shop in Kyoto which supplied many barbers throughout Japan. All stamps are intact and the stone is sealed with traditional Cashew Lacquer making this a wonderful package if purchased with the Matching Nakayama Shiro Asagi Tomo Nagura. Water only honing gives a clear glimpse into the extreme density of this stone. There is a very subtle feeling when moving across the stone on water that is very hard to describe in words. Although the stone is very hard and dense, there is a subtle feeling of silky cushion that is seen in many high quality eastern mine stones, Nakayama in particular. When diamond plate slurry is used, the stones speed and grit rich properties come out. Medium Grit scratches are removed with relative ease and the silky feeling is multiplied by 10. Mikawa Nagura progressions are where this stone really shines. It barely gives any of itself into the mix and this translates to super clear and readable feedback. Extra time must be spent refining the edge as the faster Mikawa Nagura slurry is unadulterated. Overall, a very beautiful stone with the history and performance to match!
