Ozuku Tomae Asagi Kan Nashiji 40' - Japanese Natural Finishing Toishi Whetstone
Quantity:
Dimensions/Weight:
215 mm long (8.46 in) × 75 mm wide (2.95 in) × 27 mm tall (1.06 in) / 1145 grams (2.52 lbs)
This is an extremely beautiful and unique piece of Ozuku Tomae. The visual characteristics of this stone are drop dead gorgeous in person with rich Nashiji (pear skin) dots and rings of Kan swirling on a beautiful, blue Mizu Asagi base. At first glance, one may be inclined to deem this stone as extremely hard but upon exhaustive testing, it's a rather smooth and gentle example of Ozuku. It's characteristics in the feedback department are nearly identical to many Maruka Nakayama Kiita Nashiji I've tried in the past. Water only honing immediately gives a glimpse of this gentle feedback. Slurrying with diamond plate immediately brings on a textured, grit rich slurry which feels extremely satin-like in texture but very fine. The stone also shows its cutting speed when slurried. Mikawa Nagura Progressions are wonderful with the unique slurry texture being very easy to identify against the Mikawa Nagura. This stone is gentle enough to finish kitchen knives as well. Even when applying firm downward pressure, the stone accepts the blade and doesn't leave scratches or jarring feeling. Overall, an extremely rare and high quality Ozuku with none of the negative, dead characteristics of a low quality Ozuku Stone. In a class with high quality Nakayama stones from Hatanaka!
