This wonderfully smooth brick of Ozuku Tomae is an epic all around stone. With many Mizu Asagi colored Ozuku Tomae, we see results and feedback consistent with stone #27, very hard, dense and fine. This stone is considerably softer feeling but almost nearly as fine making it a very unique stone. Water only honing is exceedingly smooth and velvety. There is an abundance of feedback which is a nice change to many of the Ozuku seen on the market. Forcing slurry with diamond plate brings an even more pronounced feeling of velvety smooth feel and the addition of a high pitched whispy feel and sound. The cutting speed also increases. Razors can be finished at this stage but using a matching Tomo Nagura after will nearly always result in a finer, more comfortable edge. Mikawa Nagura slurry is surprisingly clear to read even with a bit of base stone mixing in. For knives, this is a wonderful Ozuku and more rare to see. Self slurry is light but present and the stone has a very forgiving feel similar to other high end Eastern mine stones. The resulting polish on clad kitchen knives is a very reflective yet lightly hazy polish. Extremely versatile stone.
A photo of the stone's polishing ability on a high quality Japanese kitchen knife is shown.
