Offered here are Tam O Shanter sharpening stones, a piece of history from the original workshop on the Dalmore Estate in rural Stair, Scotland. Each one is cased in a Mauchaline Ware wooden case made of Sycamore wood, and picturing rural scenes from the neighboring countryside. Mauchaline wooden wares were made for many years in the same area as the stone workshop so the collaboration was a natural and the hones were sold in cases originally in the early 1900s. Mauchaline wares ceased production in the 1930s.

We were lucky enough to get a quantity of these wooden boxes, never before used but stored for decades in the Dalmore estate stone workshop. We have cut Tam O Shanter hones specifically to fit these cases from old stock stone blocks and applied paper labels. The hones have been stuck to the cases using doubled sided tape only, so can be pulled away from the base for use in water, if desired.
• Each hone is Iapped and ready to use.
• Hones measure approximately 185 mm long (7.28 inches), 35 mm wide (1.38 inches), and 15 mm thick (0.59 inches).
• Wooden case measures 275 mm long (10.83 inches), 55 mm wide (2.17 inches), and 35 mm tall (1.38 inches).
• The wooden cases show a little wear and loss of finish from decades in storage.
• The steel locating pins have also rusted a bit, staining the wood base.
