Aizu Koppa Japanese Natural Toishi Medium Grit Whetstone for Knives and Razors
This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected and purchased by us directly from Japan, then thoroughly tested and coated with cashew lacquer on sides and back to protect the stone for long term use.
It measures 170mm (6.69 inches) long × 65mm (2.56 inches) wide × 30mm (1.18 inches) tall, and weighs 720g (1.59 pounds).
Classic medium hard Aizu which has been inspected and authenticated by the Natural Whetstone Museum in Kameoka Japan. This koppa was cut from extremely old stock and processed/tested by Griffith Shaving Goods. Like many Aizu, this one offers a range of performance characteristics with the stone behaving harder, finer and barely self slurrying with water only. The polish is bright and medium grit scratches are present but shallow. Upon slurrying the stone the cutting speed increases dramatically and the slurry has a grit rich feel with consistent slurry highlighted by a noticeable whispy feel and sound. The polish is much more muted and hazy with extremely even and consistent scratch pattern. Perfect for Kamisori, Straight razors and trial knife size.
