This hone is a very soft and velvety smooth Akamonzen (red) Aoto from Miyazaki. This is a very high quality soft Monzento with very fine and rich slurry immediately released. the stone will absorb a bit of water and needs to hydrate a bit before work can start but it's not a mud bath like many modern Aoto. This one has a soft but firm base which allows the user to sharpen with various pressure with harder force kicking up slurry and softer pressure to break down the fine mud. For this reason, it's great for razors and Kamisori as well.
