Stone Testing Details:
Hardness: LV 3
This beautiful piece of Aiiwatani Akapin is an extremely user friendly stone. Akapin layer stones are typically more soft in nature and less fine than most Tomae. This stone follows those characteristics with immediate self slurry when honing water only. The beautiful red Nashiji like patterns make for a pinkish/red slurry component. This mud is quite grit rich and uniform. The stone is best suited for pre finishing and removal of medium grit scratches. It leaves an even and consistent haze on the bevel and an aggressive edge.
A photo of the stone's polishing ability on a high quality Japanese kitchen knife is shown.
