Japanese Natural Toishi Whetstone - Shobudani Shiro Suita Momiji

This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected and purchased by us directly from Japan, then thoroughly tested and coated with cashew lacquer on sides and back to protect the stone for long term use. It measures 210 mm (8.27 in) long × 80 mm (3.15 in) wide × 15 mm (0.59 in) thick, and weighs 670g (23.63 oz / 1.48 lbs).

Old Stock and old mined Shobudani Shiro Suita with Beautiful Momiji (Japanese Cherry Blossom) Renge patterns throughout. This is a very hard, dense and fine Shiro Suita with excellent cutting speed and extremely smooth feel for a hard Suita. I venture to guess that this stone was used for many years by a professional craftsman and worn down to the current thickness. I can fully understand why this stone was treasured. It has extremely inky cutting performance and very little self slurry of it at all. It has a very mild and easy going feel for such a firm and fine Suita. None of the lines can be felt at all on the surface. When honing Kamisori, the stone is dreamy on water only with the razor locking on to the stone and the feeling of elasticity and cushioning makes the experience unique. When slurried, the stones full cutting potential is unlocked and the stone cuts quite aggressively for its fine nature. This stone can be used quite effectively with Tomo/Mikawa Nagura Progressions. The shaves off of this Shiro Suita are clean and close with zero irritation or pulling. For knives, the stone is just as, if not more effective. The pure white base is covered in black slurry in very little time and the polishes are deep yet bright and lightly hazy.
