Nakayama Tomae / Akapin Japanese Natural Toishi Finishing Whetstone
This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected and purchased by us directly from Japan, then thoroughly tested and coated with cashew lacquer on sides and back to protect the stone for long term use.
It measures 150mm (5.91 inches) long × 83mm (3.27 inches) wide × 40mm (1.57 inches) tall, and weighs 927g (2.04 pounds)
With a tan base and red mottling it offers a great amount of usable surface area. Although a little more soft, water only honing is easy going and smooth. There is a hint of granularity but it's very subtle. Diamond plate slurry increases the mud factor and speeds up cutting. This stone is a bit soft for Mikawa Nagura Progressions but can be done. There is a bit more slurry from the base stone than usual. This stone is great for kitchen knives and although it self slurries a bit, it still holds true to the other Nakayama Akapin in that it still has an elastic characteristic. The final polish is hazy and deep.
A photo of the stone's polishing ability on a high quality Japanese kitchen knife is shown.
