Nakayama Akapin Koppa Japanese Natural Toishi Finishing Whetstone
This exceptional Japanese whetstone was selected and purchased by us directly from Japan, then thoroughly tested and coated with cashew lacquer on sides and back to protect the stone for long term use.
It measures 195 mm long (7.68 in) × 50 mm wide (1.97 in) × 23 mm tall (0.91 in), and weighs 404 g (0.89 lbs).
This deep red Nakayama Akapin stone is velvety soft and blood red slurry is released immediately with a great amount of black swarf. Although softer, this stone is still very fine and finishes razors/Kamisori nicely. To finish a razor, care must be taken in regard to pressure and slurry management. The slurry must be kept thin and nicely hydrated. If the slurry thickens to mud, the possibility of edge damage and creating a more coarse edge is more probable. As a pre finisher it works extremely well at removing medium grit scratches and replacing them with a consistent, bright haze. For knives, this stone is perfect for the same reasons. Quite quickly it removes Aoto/medium grit scratches and leaving a rich, bright and hazy polish.
A photo of the stone's polishing ability on a high quality Japanese kitchen knife is shown.
